A vintage double-strand necklace featuring uniform cream-toned faux pearls. The strands are secured by a decorative silver-toned metal clasp, which appears to be base metal as no hallmarks are visible. The clasp is set with a prominent emerald-cut red stone, appearing to be glass or paste, flanked by four baguette-cut and several round-cut colourless stones, which appear to be rhinestones. The item is presented in its original fitted red velvet case with a cream satin interior. The interior lid bears the inscriptions The NORTHERN GOLD SMITHS COMPANY and Duchess Pearls, Reg. No. 426,873. This piece represents a classic example of mid-20th-century costume jewellery.
