A hand-painted glazed ceramic figurine by Basil Matthews, depicting a seated pug dog with characteristic black ears, mask, and curled tail. The dog is posed on a decorative rectangular cushion base, featuring a floral pattern of blue and orange flowers on top and a blue cross-hatched design to the sides, separated by a gilt line. The underside bears a partially damaged green and gold foil label reading ORIGINAL SCULPTURE Basil Matthews MADE IN ENGLAND, along with a hand-written artist signature in black ink visible through the felt. Height approx. 7.5cm.
