A comprehensive Art Deco period dressing table suite manufactured by Sowerby at the Ellison Glass Works, circa 1930s. The set is crafted from pressed uranium glass, also known as vaseline glass, featuring a distinctive pale green colour and a frosted or satin finish. The pieces are decorated in the Butterfly pattern (No. 2552), displaying intricate moulded relief motifs of butterflies amongst floral sprays. The collection comprises seven individual pieces: one large scalloped oval tray, a pair of candlesticks with butterfly wing accents, three circular lidded trinket jars raised on tripod feet with butterfly finials, and a small open pin dish. Due to the uranium content in the glass melt, the entire set exhibits a vibrant neon green fluorescence when viewed under ultraviolet light. Measurements: Tray approximately 30cm in length; remaining pieces varied in size.
