A finely worked silk embroidery panel dating to the 20th century, depicting a classic bird and flower (huaniao) composition. The scene features two brightly coloured birds perched on a gnarled, blossoming plum (prunus) branch, accented by sprays of green bamboo leaves. The work is meticulously executed in polychrome silk threads on a cream silk ground, utilising various stitch techniques to provide texture to the plumage and petals. The upper right section bears a four-character poetic inscription in cursive script reading 鸟语花香 (niao yu hua xiang), which translates as birds sing and flowers are fragrant, an auspicious phrase associated with the arrival of spring. A single red embroidered artist’s seal follows the calligraphy. The panel is presented in a modern, ornate gilt-finished frame with a linen-textured slip. Approximate dimensions: 65 cm x 35 cm including frame.
