A late 19th-century antique Ogee-style mantel clock manufactured by the Waterbury Clock Co. of Waterbury, Connecticut, U.S.A. The clock features a classic rectangular case with characteristic S-curve wood moulding and a dark, textured finish to the front face. The lower portion of the door houses a decorative reverse-painted glass tablet, or verre églomisé, depicting a cottage in a winter landscape set within an ornate geometric border of green, red, and gold. The painted metal dial is signed Waterbury Clock Co., U.S.A. and displays black Roman numerals with ornate scrollwork spandrels in each corner. The mechanical, weight-driven movement is regulated by a lever-style escapement and includes an hourly strike on a coiled wire gong mounted to a cast-iron base embossed with the maker’s name. The interior backboard retains its original manufacturer’s paper label featuring branch locations in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Glasgow, alongside maintenance instructions.
