Pierre Le Faguays (French, 1892-1962). A fine Art Deco bronze sculpture entitled Diana the Huntress. The work depicts the goddess in a spirited, athletic pose, balanced upon her right leg atop a rocky outcrop. She is portrayed holding a slender bow aloft, clad in a light, flowing classical tunic that partially reveals her torso. Her hair is skilfully styled in characteristic waves and side buns. The bronze features a rich, dark brown to black patina, suggesting a high-quality lost-wax casting. It is signed Pierre Le Faguays in the maquette on the integral rocky base and bears the incised numbering 64/3. The sculpture is mounted on a separate, stepped circular black stone plinth. 48 x 22 x 15 cm.
Condition report:
The sculpture is in excellent condition throughout. The patina remains largely intact, with only very minor surface rubbing consistent with age on the high points, notably the raised knee and the knuckles. There are no signs of chips, cracks, or professional repairs to either the bronze or the base.
