This impressionistic work by John Falconar Slater (1857-1937) is executed in watercolour with gouache highlights on wove paper. The composition depicts a coastal village perched atop a rugged cliff line, overlooking a wide sandy beach at low tide. Small figures and beached boats are visible in the foreground, rendered with the artist’s characteristic loose, atmospheric brushwork. The work is signed J. F. Slater and dated 1910 in the lower right corner. It is presented in a multi-ruled cream wash mount and housed in a gilt wood frame.
