A Victorian sterling silver double-sided commemorative photo pendant or watch fob, issued as a patriotic souvenir during the Second Boer War. The obverse features a monochromatic profile portrait of Queen Victoria in her later years, depicted veiled and crowned. The reverse features a monochromatic portrait of Field Marshal Frederick Roberts, 1st Earl Roberts, captioned ROBERTS in full military dress with campaign medals. The portraits are housed within a circular silver frame with a bevelled edge, protected by transparent covers. The pendant is fitted with a fixed bail and an attached circular jump ring. The outer rim is fully hallmarked with the Birmingham anchor, the lion passant for sterling silver, the date letter z for 1899-1900, and the maker’s mark L&S for the silversmiths Levi and Salaman. The item is accompanied by a period maroon leather pouch. Diameter: 27mm.
