Tynemouth Photographic Society. County Borough of Tynemouth Coronation Celebrations June 1953. Tynemouth: Privately produced, 1953. A unique or limited-run commemorative photograph album documenting local festivities. Quarto. Post-bound in original blue textured cloth boards, featuring a gilt-stamped title and the County Borough of Tynemouth coat of arms (dated 1849 with the motto Messis Ab Altis) to the upper board. The volume is secured with three metal screw posts. Marbled endpapers. The album contains original black-and-white silver gelatin photographs mounted on heavy black card leaves, each accompanied by a typed paper caption. The photographs provide a comprehensive record of the local celebrations for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, specifically featuring the Church Parade in Howard Street and Northumberland Square on 31 May 1953. Subject matter includes civic dignitaries in ceremonial robes, the Mayor, military bands, veterans in procession, and various military demonstrations, including the operation of an anti-aircraft gun and a controlled explosion on the pier. A Tynemouth Photographic Society label with a woodcut-style coastal illustration is pasted to the front inner cover.
