Auction 8th December - Antiques, Jewellery, Militaria, Coins, Vinyl, Toys, Ceramics, Collectables & More
A pair of 20th Century Sono Wood hand-carved Asian fisherman sculptures. Each undated figure is crafted from a medium-brown wood, showcasing natural grain and a smooth, unpolished finish, in a traditional or folk art style. The figures wear distinct conical hats, indicative of Southeast Asian origin. The left sculpture portrays a standing man with a long beard, clad in a simple garment, holding what appears to be a fishing pole or trap, with two ducks at his feet, all integral to a shaped wood base. The right sculpture features a crouching man, also bearded and wearing a loincloth, holding a large fish or bird in one hand and a stick in the other, supported by a gnarled, root-like base. The carving demonstrates fine detail in facial expressions, musculature, and textures such as the hats and animal feathers.
