An Antique Victorian Jamieson’s Family Bible, Volume I, published by James S Virtue & Co. circa 1860. This large, hardback book features an ornate, gold-tooled and embossed dark brown leather binding, consistent with mid-Victorian design. The spine is titled ‘JAMIESON’S BIBLE VOL. I. CAN-SONG OF SOL.’ Authored by Reverend Robert Jamieson, this volume contains a practical and explanatory commentary on the New Testament, covering Canticles through Song of Solomon. It is often found as part of a two-volume set. The interior features numerous illustrative steel engravings depicting biblical scenes such as ‘The Mother and Child, ‘ ‘The Seventh Plague, ‘ and ‘Samson, ‘ with artists like J. Martin credited. The pages have gold gilt edges. A section of blank family record pages is present at the beginning of the book.
