A ceramic mug or tankard, likely earthenware or stoneware, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The body features a black transfer-printed decoration. One side depicts a detailed image of a large building, identified on its roofline as “SUNDERLAND CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY, ” with additional text beneath reading “Sunderland Equitable Industrial Society Limited ESTABLISHED 1859.” Smaller signs visible within the architectural image include “BOOTS & SHOES, ” “LIBRARY, ” “OFFICE, ” and “BUTCHER.” The reverse side is decorated with a separate black transfer-printed floral design. A thin, worn gold band is present along the rim.
