A vintage wooden advertising crate for John Player’s Navy Cut cigarettes, dated 1957. Constructed from a light-colored wood with paper or cardboard panels, the top prominently features ‘Player’s Please’ in blue script, alongside a circular logo depicting a bearded sailor wearing a hat marked ‘HERO, ‘ surrounded by ‘PLAYER’S NAVY CUT’ and images of sailing ships, with ‘Regd Trade Mark.’ beneath. A visible side panel reiterates ‘SMOKE Player’s NAVY CUT’ in a similar style. An affixed shipping label on the interior of the lid indicates the item originated from ‘JOHN PLAYER & SONS, Branch of The Imperial Tobacco Company (of Great Britain & Ireland), Limited, NOTTINGHAM’ and was dispatched to ‘MESSRS. L. & G. HORNSBY.’ in ‘NORTH SHIELDS, NORTHUMBERLAND, ‘ with an invoice date of ’17TH. JULY. 1957.’
