A 19th Century English tallcase clock by Mitchell & Co, Sunderland, displaying a Georgian or early Victorian aesthetic. The case is constructed from a figured dark hardwood, likely mahogany, featuring a scrolled pediment and a long, paneled trunk door. The arched hood door reveals a painted dial with a vibrant lunette depicting figures in a landscape scene above the main chapter ring, flanked by additional figural paintings around the dial’s perimeter. The white-painted dial face features black Roman numerals for hours, Arabic numerals for minutes, and two subsidiary dials for seconds and date. The maker’s inscription “MITCHELL & CO, SUNDERLAND” is clearly visible on the dial.
