A collection of seven early 20th century souvenir vesta cases, primarily constructed from silver-toned metal, with one exhibiting a brassier tone and another featuring a small circular inset image. The majority are rectangular with hinged lids, and several are adorned with enamel or celluloid panels depicting city coats of arms and names. Visible text includes “BLACKPOOL” with the motto “PROGRESS”, two items marked “EDINBURGH, ” one of which features the Latin motto “NISI DOMINUS FRUSTRA” (“Unless the Lord [is with us], all is in vain”). Another item is marked “BRIDLINGTON” with the Latin phrases “PRO SAPIENTE SALUTE” (“For wise safety”) and “PRO SALUTEM SEMPER” (“For safety always”). A plain, taller vesta case is partially marked “KNOWN THE WORLD OVER” and “ART METAL WORKS”.
