Auction 8th December - Antiques, Jewellery, Militaria, Coins, Vinyl, Toys, Ceramics, Collectables & More
A pair of Chinese carved bamboo brush pots, dating to circa 1900s. Each cylindrical pot is intricately carved from dark bamboo, depicting detailed figural scenes within a landscape of trees, bamboo groves, and traditional dwellings. Accompanying this lot is a Japanese Satsuma ware condiment set, dating to the late 19th century. The set comprises two lidded circular pots with gilt finials, situated on a conforming tray with a central gilt metal handle. These ceramic pieces feature polychrome enamel and gilt floral motifs and figures against a dark ground, characteristic of Satsuma ware, and exhibit a deliberate crackle glaze. The base of one ceramic item bears a clear red rectangular seal mark, reading ‘大日本薩摩製’ (Dai Nippon Satsuma Sei – Made in Great Japan, Satsuma), along with other circular red and gilt marks.
