A pair of allegorical figural statuettes executed in patinated cast metal, likely spelter, with a dark reddish-brown finish. The figures are mounted on matching stepped circular bases. The male figure represents Labor (TRAVAIL), depicted as a blacksmith holding a hammer above an anvil resting on a rocky outcrop. The female figure represents Science (SCIENCE), shown holding a laurel branch above a globe. The figures are rendered in the style associated with the French Moreau family of sculptors. Each base features a small riveted plaque identifying the subject and the attributed sculptor. The Labor figure plaque reads Par A.A. Héreau (Méd. d’Or). The Science figure plaque reads Par Aug. Moreau (Méd. d’Or).
