A single ceramic character jug manufactured by Beswick Ware, England, depicting the character Sairey Gamp from Charles Dickens’ novel Martin Chuzzlewit. The piece is modeled in the style of a Toby jug, crafted from glazed earthenware, and finished in a polychrome palette featuring green for the bonnet, flesh tones for the face, and reddish-brown for the garment and handle. The underside of the base bears multiple manufacturer’s marks, including the impressed model number 371, the impressed name Sairey Gamp, and the printed mark Beswick Ware. MADE IN ENGLAND. The jug features a detailed facial expression and a high-gloss finish.
