A pair of vintage Russian or Ukrainian Cossack “Chub” dolls, often associated with the character Nikolai Gogol, likely dating to the mid-20th century (1960s USSR era). The figures feature molded composition or plastic heads with highly stylized, painted facial features, including prominent red blush, open mouths, and stylized gray mustaches. They are topped with dark, fuzzy fiber hair. Both dolls are dressed in matching folk attire consisting of white fabric shirts with voluminous sleeves, bright blue fabric trousers, and black plastic boots. The shirts feature red and white geometric chest panels and a red neck tie. The figures are differentiated by their colorful fabric sashes: one doll wears a blue and white patterned sash, and the other wears a red, yellow, and white striped sash. The dolls are presented within their original cardboard box.
