A collection of five pieces of Victorian or Aesthetic Movement transferware ceramics manufactured by Wedgwood & Co. The group comprises two octagonal covered serving dishes (two bases and two lids) and one corresponding octagonal underplate/stand for the smaller tureen. The white ceramic bodies are decorated with a dark green/black transfer print featuring dense floral and scrolling vine motifs bordered by geometric patterns. The lids feature integral, pierced finial handles, and the bases have applied handles. The visible backstamp on the underplate clearly reads “VERONA, ” “TRADE MARK, ” and “WEDGWOOD & CO, ” accompanied by a graphic of a horse’s head emerging from a wheel. This pattern is sometimes referred to in the market as ‘Clematis’.
