A vintage Slazenger “Brian Close Club” Model cricket bat, endorsed by the legendary English cricketer and former England captain, Brian Close (Yorkshire and England). The bat features the stamped, facsimile signature of Brian Close across the face, identifying the model. There is no apparent handwritten autograph present on the visible surfaces, and therefore no third-party authentication is applicable for a signature. This item exhibits significant wear and tear consistent with heavy use, though it lacks a Letter of Authenticity (LOA) or photo match confirming specific game use by Close. Usage indicators include heavy oil staining and darkening of the willow, particularly in the sweet spot area, and severe chipping, splintering, and scuffing to the toe, which is typical of a heavily used cricket bat. The bat includes an original, aged Slazenger instruction on the reverse face regarding oiling and care. A circular retailer stamp is visible on the wood: “GEORGE THURSELL NEWCASTLE ON-TYNE.”
