A single hand-carved wooden sculpture depicting a male lion in a dynamic, lunging or crouching posture with its mouth open in a roar. The piece is executed in a dark hardwood, displaying a rich reddish-brown tone and a high-gloss finish. The carving technique is deep, particularly defining the texture of the mane and the musculature of the body. The eyes are inlaid, and the exposed teeth and prominent canines are separate insertions made of a pale material, consistent with bone or a composite material often found in vintage tourist trade carvings.
