An elegant early 20th-century colonial-style rocking chair, likely of Anglo-Indian or Dutch Colonial origin, reflecting the traditional furniture designs of the British Raj or East Indies. The piece is constructed from a dark-stained solid hardwood, with grain patterns consistent with teak. It features a distinctive high, raked backrest comprising numerous slender vertical spindles set between a shaped crest rail and a curved lower rail. The rectangular seat is fitted with a well-preserved panel of hand-woven cane, a material favoured in colonial climates for its breathability. The understructure consists of turned front posts and multiple plain cylindrical stretchers, all joined via robust mortise and tenon construction. The chair is mounted on long, curved rockers terminating in decorative scrolled tips. This piece exemplifies the fusion of European forms with indigenous materials and craftsmanship. Dimensions: 102cm H x 56cm W x 82cm D.
