A single antique Admiral Fitzroy’s Barometer housed within a long, rectangular oak or hardwood case. The instrument features a U-shaped glass tube, likely containing mercury, mounted against a detailed paper backing. The backing is titled “Admiral Fitzroy’s Barometer” and includes standard pressure scales ranging from 28 to 31, alongside extensive printed instructions detailing weather prognostication based on pressure changes and wind direction (e.g., “RISES FOR N, E… DRY OR LESS WIND, ” “FALLS FOR S, W… WET OR MORE WIND”). The dark-finished wooden case is fitted with a decorative, curved pediment at the top, featuring carved foliage surrounding a central shield motif, likely a fleur-de-lis. The instrument is secured by a pane of glass covering the face.
