A vintage mechanical wind-up toy, identified through consensus as the Walking Guardsman, model No. 2224, manufactured by Yone (Yoneya) in Japan, typically dating to the 1960s. The figure is constructed primarily of lithographed tin plate for the body and head, with plastic components used for the bearskin helmet, rifle, and large walking feet mechanism. The figure is depicted in the uniform of a British Foot Guardsman, featuring a red tunic, white cross-belts, and yellow detailing. A metal winding key is attached to the side of the torso. The toy is accompanied by its original cardboard box, which is marked YONE No. 2224 and A WIND UP TOY WALKING GUARD. The box also features a partial Japanese Toy Safety Mark and a visible Woolworth retail sticker priced at 85p.
