This mid-20th century Arts and Crafts miniature table, also frequently utilised as a stool, is a quintessential example of the craftsmanship from the Kilburn workshop of Robert Thompson, famously known as the Mouseman. Executed entirely in solid English oak, the piece showcases the traditional hand-adzed finish to the rectangular top, a technique synonymous with the Thompson workshop used to create a textured, light-catching surface. The top is supported by four sturdy octagonal tapering legs, which are expertly joined to a floor-level H-stretcher using traditional pegged mortise and tenon construction. A finely carved signature mouse is found in high relief on one of the front legs, serving as the maker’s mark. This item reflects the workshop’s commitment to the use of high-quality primary woods and honest, visible joinery characteristic of the British Arts and Crafts movement. Dimensions: 20cm H x 40cm W x 27cm D.
