A Second Model Luftwaffe Officer’s Dress Dagger (Model 1937). This example features the characteristic hilt assembly including a spherical pommel decorated with a raised sunwheel swastika and deeply embossed oak leaves. The crossguard is cast in the form of the Luftwaffe eagle in flight, clutching a swastika in its talons. The grip is constructed of cream-coloured, spiral-ribbed celluloid over a wooden core; notably, this example lacks the decorative wire wrap often found on earlier models, which is a common feature of mid-to-late war production. The double-edged, diamond-section steel blade features a decorative acid-etched panel with an oak leaf motif near the crossguard. No manufacturer’s mark or RZM code is visible on the ricasso. The scabbard is constructed of steel with a uniform pebbled finish and features two hanger bands decorated with relief oak leaves, each fitted with a suspension ring. The scabbard terminates in a rounded, tiered chape.
