Buyer's Premium:

A 19th-century salt-glazed stoneware pitcher, likely of German Westerwald or American folk origin. The vessel is wheel-thrown with a characteristic grey orange peel textured surface, achieved through the introduction of salt into the kiln during the firing process. It features hand-painted cobalt blue slip decoration in stylised foliate and feather-like patterns. The form comprises an ovoid body tapering to a flared circular foot, with a wide neck accented by incised horizontal bands. The piece is finished with a pinched pouring spout and an applied strap handle. The flat, unglazed base is devoid of maker’s marks or signatures. Dimensions unavailable.
