A Chinese circular lidded box dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The piece is decorated using the cloisonné technique, featuring intricate brass wires soldered to the base metal to create decorative cells filled with coloured glass pastes. This method is distinct from champlevé, which involves carving channels directly into the metal. The palette is composed of various shades of blue, including deep cobalt and cerulean, set against a vibrant turquoise ground. The lid is ornamented with large, stylised floral motifs, likely peonies or lotuses, surrounded by dense scrolling foliage. The lower body features a repeating pattern of ruyi-style cloud scrolls situated below a scalloped decorative border. The interior and underside are finished in a consistent turquoise enamel, and the brass rims of the lid and base show remnants of original gilding. Dimensions: Diameter approx. 9cm.
