A classic brass and copper-alloy flame safety lamp manufactured by The Wolf Safety Lamp Co. (Wm. Maurice) Ltd. of Sheffield, England. This professional-grade instrument was historically employed in the mining industry for illumination and the detection of firedamp (methane). The lamp features a tapered upper bonnet with peripheral ventilation holes, a four-rod protective cage, and a heavy-gauge cylindrical glass chimney. A prominent oval copper-toned plaque is riveted to the chimney, featuring the company’s signature wolf’s head trade mark and inscribed “THE WOLF SAFETY LAMP CO (WM MAURICE) LTD SHEFFIELD ENGLAND”. The mid-section locking ring is further embossed with the manufacturer’s details. The unit is equipped with a robust, articulated iron hanging hook and ring for suspension. The lower section comprises a threaded fuel reservoir with an underside knurled adjustment screw for the internal wick. No case is present.
