A mid-century terrestrial relief globe produced in Great Britain by the renowned cartographers George Philip & Son, Ltd., London. This 19-inch model features a paper-gore surface with raised physical relief to illustrate mountainous terrain. The cartography provides a fascinating historical record of the late 1950s, featuring period-specific political labels including the Belgian Congo, Tanganyika Territory, and the United Arab Republic (U.A.R.). A detailed circular legend provides a scale of 1:26,000,000 and includes keys for land elevation, ocean depth in fathoms, major shipping routes with distances in nautical miles, and international railways. The globe is mounted via a threaded screw-top mechanism to a brass-toned metal rod, terminating in a small metal loop at the base. Diameter: 19 inches.
