Monday 16th March - Antiques, Jewellery, Militaria, Coins, Vinyl, Toys, Ceramics, Collectables
A fine example of late 19th-century parlour gaming equipment, this rectangular box is constructed from figured rosewood featuring sophisticated marquetry-inlaid borders and a central brass monogram plate engraved with the initials HGD. The lid incorporates a functional brass scoring track with precision-drilled peg holes set against tiered wood inlays. The front is fitted with a diamond-shaped ebony escutcheon surrounding a central lock. The interior reveals a secondary brass plate designed to house the scoring pegs, currently containing four small metal pegs and one larger, decorative brass master peg. Included with the set is an original paper-bound instruction manual titled CRIBBAGE by Rawdon Crawley, Bt., published by the noted London firms Thomas De La Rue & Co., Ltd. and Chas. Goodall & Son, Ltd. A contemporary sealed pack of Palgrave playing cards has been added to the set. Approximately 28cm x 10cm x 8cm.
