An Italian Murano hand-blown art glass figurine depicting a whimsical clown musician. The piece is expertly hand-worked, featuring a solid black top hat over opaque amber-yellow hair and a white and red face with expressive black eyes. A large, flared ruff in transparent yellow glass surrounds the neck. The clown is depicted playing a cobalt blue accordion with black textured ribbing, held by opaque white hands. The central torso is created using a multicoloured frit or ‘end-of-day’ technique, featuring a vibrant core of red, blue, green, white, and yellow glass shards encased within a thick layer of clear glass. The figure stands upon a base of two oversized, solid black glass shoes. This piece is characteristic of mid-20th-century Venetian glassmaking. Unmarked. Approximately 24 cm in height.
