A finely detailed glazed porcelain figurine by Lladró titled Surprise, model number 5901, designed by sculptor Juan Huerta. This retired piece was in production from 1992 to 1998 and depicts a pensive clown pulling back the sides of his long brown overcoat to reveal three small puppies sheltering at his feet. The figure features traditional clown makeup, a small blue hat, pink curly hair, a striped shirt, and chequered trousers. The underside of the base bears the blue underglaze factory mark with the tulip logo, Hand Made in Spain, and © DAISA 1991. Also present are the incised model number 5901, F-11 F, and hand-incised workshop marks 8y and Lo. Height approx. 24 cm.
