A mid-20th-century GPO black Bakelite rotary dial telephone mounted on a Bellset No. 44 base. The unit features a standard alphanumeric rotary dial and a handset resting on a top cradle, connected by a black coiled cord. The front of the base is fitted with a multi-position sliding selector switch with white lettering for exchange and extension functions, including labels for EXTN. TO EXCH., HOLD EXCH. SPEAK TO EXTN., SPEAK TO EXCH., and SPEAK TO EXTN. A separate RE-CALL button is located to the right of the selector. The lower section includes a pull-out directory card drawer with a black plastic handle. The underside features a metal base plate stamped 44 C / I and retains a partially deteriorated paper wiring diagram titled BELL-SET NO. 44.
