Buyer's Premium:

A rare and comprehensive archive belonging to a senior officer of the HM Customs and Excise Waterguard, the uniformed maritime branch of the service. The collection is centred around a high-ranking officer’s uniform, including a navy blue wool blazer with a gold bullion crowned portcullis breast badge and a prestigious white-topped peaked cap. The cap is of particular note, featuring a double row of gold bullion oak leaf embroidery to the peak, signifying a rank equivalent to Assistant Commissioner or a high-level maritime official. The insignia includes several pairs of shoulder boards and slides featuring the Executive Curl lace, a distinctive feature of the Waterguard branch. The group is accompanied by a significant documentary archive providing excellent provenance, including an Official Secrets Act declaration, Civil Service Commission correspondence from 1960 regarding officer examinations, a 1960 Customs and Excise Sports Magazine, and H.M. Treasury pension booklets from 1958. Also included is a personal Seiko 5 Automatic stainless steel wristwatch with a day/date complication.
