Artist Unknown (20th/21st Century), oil on stretched canvas, a dynamic study of a batsman in traditional whites and navy cap, monogrammed BAL in white paint lower right. The work is executed with bold, direct brushwork and impasto highlights, allowing the texture of the canvas support to remain visible throughout the composition. It is presented in a deep, multi-tiered wooden frame with stepped gilt and dark-toned mouldings. Accompanied by a miniature cricket bat from The Art of Sport Miniature Collection, featuring a printed image of Matthew Hoggard (Yorkshire and England) and hand-signed by the player in black ink, housed in a glazed shadow box frame. Also included is a printed caricature by Roy Ullyett (1914-2001) titled The All Ten Test Match, commemorating Jim Laker’s historic 19-wicket performance against Australia in 1956, featuring full match statistics and housed in a gilt frame. 51 x 41 cm (Painting), 15 x 55 cm (Bat Frame), 45 x 35 cm (Print).
