A late Victorian sterling silver nurse’s belt in the Art Nouveau style. The belt is constructed from a series of openwork rectangular panels, each featuring chased decoration of a bird, such as a heron or crane, set within scrolling floral and foliate motifs. These panels are connected by hinged bars. The belt features a larger, matching two-piece interlocking buckle at the centre with corresponding chased bird and foliate designs. The reverse of the connecting bars displays a full set of British hallmarks, including the maker’s mark B.N.S for Boaz Nathan & Sons, the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard’s head for the London Assay Office, and the date letter d for 1899.
