A diverse assembly of lithographed tinplate advertising and souvenir containers reflecting British commercial history. The centrepiece is an ornate, footed metal chest produced for the Co-operative Wholesale Society (CWS) to commemorate their Jubilee (1863-1913), featuring a hinged lid depicting a stately home and portraits of society founders on the front panel. Also included is a large Macfarlane Lang & Co. Biscuits tin from Glasgow & London, bearing the Royal Warrant for King George V; a red OXO Cubes kitchen tin; and a rectangular souvenir tin depicting the Royal Yacht Britannia at sea. Smaller examples comprise a 1929 North East Coast Exhibition souvenir tin, a medicinal Blackcurrant & Glycerine Pastilles tin, a Boots round tin featuring a Puss-in-Boots character, and a black cylindrical canister with a flamingo and palm tree motif. The lot is completed by a square equestrian-themed tin with horse-racing scenes and a fabric-covered presentation box inset with a glass-protected sepia photograph of Central Station, Newcastle upon Tyne.
