Produced by Hegener and Glaser of Germany, this Mephisto Exclusive is a premium electronic sensory chess computer. The unit is housed in a substantial, hand-crafted wooden cabinet featuring a fine inlaid wood playing surface of walnut and maple with an ornate moulded base. The board incorporates the Electronic Sensory Board II (ESB II) system, which detects piece movement via internal sensors and indicates computer moves through 64 integrated red LEDs positioned at the corners of each square. The set includes a complete complement of 32 weighted, hand-carved wooden chess pieces in light and dark stained finishes, all featuring green felted bases. A slide-out drawer with a brass-toned metal pull houses the programmable control module, which features an LCD display screen and a full tactile keypad for game settings and difficulty levels. The “Mephisto” branding is clearly visible in gold-tone script on the board surface and in red on the black plastic electronic module, which is also stamped “ESB II PROG. MOD.”.
