A vintage miner’s safety lamp manufactured by The Protector Lamp and Lighting Co. Ltd. in Eccles. The lamp is constructed from a combination of brass and steel with a central glass cylinder. A circular brass plaque is riveted to the steel bonnet and bears the embossed text THE PROTECTOR LAMP and LIGHTING CO LTD around the border, with central text reading TYPE 6 M and Q SAFETY LAMPS APPROVAL No B/28 MAKERS ECCLES. The upper section features a steel bonnet with circular ventilation holes and a top hanging hook. The central portion consists of a glass cylinder protected by a brass cage with four vertical pillars. The lower brass base incorporates a locking mechanism on the side. The underside of the base displays a central cross-shaped recessed fitting and remnants of lead or solder seals around the perimeter.
