This framed numismatic display, titled The Vanishing American, was produced by the Illinois Mint in 1976. It contains a collection of ten US coins, comprising six cupronickel five-cent pieces and four bronze one-cent pieces. The five-cent pieces are Buffalo nickel types, including obverse examples dated 1935 and 1936, and reverse examples. The one-cent pieces are Indian Head cent types with legible dates including 1902, 1905, and 1907. No mint marks are visible on the displayed reverses, indicating Philadelphia Mint issues. The coins are inset into a matting featuring a printed reproduction of the painting Indian Warfare by Frederic Remington and descriptive text regarding Native American-themed coinage. The assembly is housed in a decoratively carved wooden frame under glass. The matting is marked Copyright 1976 – Illinois Mint.
