A pair of silver plated commercial service vessels manufactured by Mappin and Webb, comprising one teapot and one hot water jug or small coffee pot. The pieces are designed in a functional style with subtle Art Deco influences, featuring plain, slightly tapered circular bodies and a polished finish. Each vessel is fitted with a distinctive angular geometric handle and a hinged lid surmounted by a spherical ball finial. Both items bear a side-stamped inscription in a stylized slanted font reading Vaux and Associated Breweries Ltd, identifying them as former service ware for the Sunderland-based brewery. The bases are struck with the maker marks Mappin and Webb, London and Sheffield, and Mappin Plate. Additional markings include a capital letter C enclosed within a shield, the pattern or model code W27019, a six-pointed star symbol, and the letter O.
