A contemporary carved tropical hardwood sculpture, identified on accompanying documentation as Colon wood, depicting a standing nude female figure. The figure is rendered in a stylised manner, featuring a distinctive high-ponytail hairstyle with a textured fringe, large expressive eyes, and elongated earlobes. The subject is depicted with wrists bound by an integral carved wooden chain. The work is carved from a single block of wood, including its integral, tiered circular base. The top surface of the base bears incised characters U, D, and S, identifying the work of U. D. Somaratne, the managing director of Nishantha Traditional Wood Carving (Pvt) Ltd. The sculpture is accompanied by a 2006 freight invoice from the aforementioned company in Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka, which identifies the piece as Slave Lady.
