A mid-20th century hand-carved figure of an elephant, depicted in a walking pose on an integral, roughly-hewn rocky base. The figure is crafted from a dense, reddish-brown hardwood, consistent with teak. It features stylized incised lines representing the hide texture on the trunk, ears, and flanks. The piece is detailed with inset tusks, eyes, and toenails made from a contrasting pale material, likely bone or bovine horn. Although an accompanying handwritten note identifies the subject as an African elephant, the anatomical representation of relatively small ears is more characteristic of an Asian elephant. The base is unmarked, displaying only the natural grain of the wood and minor surface abrasions.
