Buyer's Premium:

A Japanese ceramic okimono of a Shishi or guardian lion, dating from the late Meiji to Taisho period, late 19th to early 20th century. The figure is modelled in a traditional seated posture with an open mouth, featuring a heavily stylised mane and a scrolling tail. The piece is finished in a vibrant green lead glaze with dark brown accents on the ears, snout, and mane, and touches of deep blue glaze on the tail and legs. The style and glaze application are characteristic of Japanese export-style ceramics, possibly from the Awaji or similar kilns. There are several small, faint impressed marks located on the underside, including a small circular or square impression and what appear to be three or four faint characters or digits, though these are too shallow and worn to be clearly legible.
