A watercolour on paper by the British artist Victor Noble Rainbird, depicting an expansive rural landscape in Northumberland. The composition features a lone figure, possibly a shepherd or farmhand, situated on a rugged hillside in the middle ground. The foreground and mid-ground are executed with loose washes of blue, green, and ochre, with dry brushwork detailing the texture of the moorland. In the distance, a line of trees sits below rolling hills under a heavy, atmospheric sky with layered grey and white clouds. The work is signed in the lower left corner VICTOR NOBLE RAINBIRD and inscribed in the lower right IN NORTH NORTHUMBERLAND. The painting is presented in a cream-coloured mount within a giltwood frame. The verso is sealed with hardboard and tape, featuring a damaged and illegible paper label to the lower centre.
