A pair of mid-20th-century maritime oil paintings on stretched canvas. Both works are executed in an impressionistic style using heavy impasto and expressive palette knife techniques to create a highly textured surface. The smaller painting depicts a harbour scene with a fishing vessel in the foreground and a lighthouse in the background; it bears the signature MAX SAVY in the lower left corner. The second, larger work illustrates several boats moored alongside timber-clad buildings on stilts and is unsigned. The smaller painting is housed in an ornate gilt-finished moulded frame. The larger work is presented in a substantial Rococo-style gilt frame with a hessian-covered slip and a gilded inner liner. Verso inspection reveals the canvases are mounted on wooden stretchers with moderate surface dirt and age-related wear to the wood. No gallery labels or stamps are visible.
