A spherical solid cast-iron cannonball, likely dating from the late 18th to mid-19th century. This artifact represents the standard solid shot used in smoothbore muzzle-loading artillery, common across European and colonial forces during the Napoleonic Wars and the mid-19th century period of military expansion. The piece is solid-cast, displaying the granular texture and casting seams typical of early industrial foundry work. Such munitions were utilised extensively in naval engagements and coastal fortifications, particularly in the Atlantic and Caribbean theatres. No maker’s marks or unit identifiers are discernible, which is typical for ordnance recovered from archaeological or maritime contexts where long-term oxidation has occurred. Diameter approximately 10 cm.
