Buyer's Premium:

A late 18th to early 19th-century Scottish oak longcase clock. The case is surmounted by a swan-neck pediment featuring pierced fretwork and a central plinth. The hood is flanked by turned columns enclosing a glazed door. The trunk features a shaped door with decorative grain, flanked by fluted quarter-columns, standing on a plain rectangular base with a simple plinth. The 12-inch arched white painted dial is signed John Bell, Jedburgh across the centre. The dial features black Roman numerals for the hours and an outer minute track. It includes a subsidiary seconds dial below the XII and a semi-circular date aperture above the VI showing the day of the month. The lunette is decorated with a hand-painted still-life depiction of pears and berries, while the spandrels are finished with raised gilded scrollwork against a blue-grey background. The 8-day mechanical movement is weight-driven and designed to strike on a bell. The dial has two winding apertures, indicating separate trains for timekeeping and striking. The clock is accompanied by lead weights, a pendulum, and a brass winding crank.
